Here, transparency and trust are core to how we operate, and every person has the opportunity to make a visible impact. If you want to grow, stretch, and do work that truly matters, Gong is the place to do the best work of your career. Gong is looking for an experienced Director of Quality Engineering to join our R&D team and define how quality is managed, measured, and improved across Gong. In this role, you will lead our Quality Engineering, SRE, and NOC teams. You will help Gong move from reactive quality and reliability operations toward an engineering-owned model in which teams ship with confidence, operate their services responsibly, and continuously learn from production. A significant part of this mandate is to make Gong an AI-driven quality and reliability organization: using AI to prevent defects, understand change risk, detect customer impact, accelerate response, and continuously improve the systems and practices that keep Gong dependable. As Senior Director of Quality & Reliability Engineering at Gong, you will • Define and lead Gong’s quality and reliability strategy across R&D, including ownership expectations, standards, and metrics. • Lead and coach the Quality Engineering, SRE, and NOC organizations, creating clear missions, healthy interfaces, and strong career growth. • Establish a pragmatic quality-and-reliability operating model spanning design, development, production operations, incident response, and learning. • Guide Gong’s QE methodology and tooling, including automation strategy, test architecture, test data, test environments, performance testing, and other non-functional quality practices. • Set the direction for reliability engineering, including observability, alert quality, capacity and performance, incident management, and reduction of operational toil. • Ensure that service teams own the reliability of their modules while SRE provides the standards, tooling, enablement, and cross-service visibility. • Ensure the NOC provides effective triage, runbook execution, and operational coverage for the platform. • Build a strong incident-management and post-incident learning culture: prioritize customer impact, coordinate response, identify systemic causes, and drive corrective actions to completion. • Lead AI-driven quality and reliability across the lifecycle: from test design, regression, and flaky-test analysis to alert triage, incident response, postmortem automation, and decision support for capacity, rollout, mitigation, and rollback. • Measure the impact of AI adoption through outcomes such as escaped-defect reduction, test-signal quality, alert-noise reduction, and time to detect and mitigate. You should apply if you have • Significant experience leading Quality Engineering, SRE, production engineering, or a comparable combination of quality and reliability functions in a complex SaaS or cloud-product environment. • Experience leading multiple technical teams and managers, with a track record of building effective organizations, clarifying ownership, and developing leaders. • Strong technical judgment across test architecture, automation, observability, service reliability, incident management, and production operations. • Experience defining and operating observability standards, SLIs/SLOs, alerting, incident-response practices, postmortems, and on-call models. • A demonstrated ability to help engineering teams improve quality and reliability through methodology, platforms, coaching, and practical standards rather than heavy process. • Experience with AI-assisted testing, incident response, operational knowledge, or developer productivity workflows. • Experience defining metrics and operating reviews that change behavior instead of creating reporting overhead. • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to communicate risk clearly to both technical and executive audiences. • Prior experience as a software engineer, automation architect, or technical operations leader. This is not a traditional QA or operations role This is a leadership role focused on building the system that makes quality and reliability a shared engineering responsibility. If you want to grow, stretch, and do work that truly matters, Gong is the place to do the best work of your career. As an Observability Platform Team Lead, you'll define how Gong sees and understands its production systems. You'll lead the team that builds our telemetry foundation: instrumentation standards, pipelines and tooling that let every engineering team detect, investigate and resolve issues quickly. This role sits where backend engineering meets production operations. If you're a hands-on backend engineer who has led OpenTelemetry adoption and believes good observability is something you design in, not bolt on, this is your opportunity to shape the practice from the ground up. You'll Own: • Team leadership & mentorship: Shaping and growing a high-performing team, and building a culture of ownership, curiosity and operational excellence. • Observability strategy & standards: Defining how services emit logs, metrics and traces, including conventions, defaults and a golden path that teams actually want to use. • OpenTelemetry adoption: Leading instrumentation across our Java and Spring Boot services, from SDKs and auto-instrumentation to Collector architecture and context propagation. • Telemetry pipelines & vendors: Owning the reliability, scalability and cost efficiency of telemetry pipelines in a multi-vendor environment. You'll Solve: • Signal vs. noise: Turning large volumes of telemetry into actionable insights by improving alert quality, cutting alert fatigue, and keeping cardinality and cost under control. • Visibility into the data layer: Defining how we monitor PostgreSQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Redis and Kafka, so issues show up before customers notice them. • Distributed systems debugging: Making it fast to trace a problem across services, queues and data stores. You'll Impact: • Detection and recovery time: Helping teams find and fix production issues faster, with clear SLIs and SLOs for critical services. • Engineering velocity: Providing libraries, templates and self-service tools so product teams get observability by default. • Reliability culture: Bringing SRE practices into R&D, including SLOs, error budgets, and healthy on-call. How You'll Succeed Here: • You have 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers, formally or as a tech lead. • You have deep, hands-on backend engineering experience building large-scale distributed systems. Java & Spring Boot experience is a strong advantage. • You have hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry: instrumentation (manual and auto), the collector, OTLP, semantic conventions and trace context propagation. • You understand SRE fundamentals: SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, alerting strategy, and incident response. • You know the key health signals of common data stores and messaging systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka) and how to monitor them well. • You're comfortable on AWS and Kubernetes, and have worked with commercial or open-source observability backends. • You see observability as a product: you gather needs from engineering teams, influence without direct authority, and drive adoption. • You balance quick wins with long-term architecture, and you watch cost as closely as coverage. • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. #LI-HS1
