Description Guardio is one of the fastest-growing companies in consumer cybersecurity - we’ve doubled revenue four years running, passed $150 million in ARR, and now protect over a million people, at a moment when AI has made scams more convincing than ever. AI has democratized cybercrime: scams that once required sophisticated hacking teams are now cheap, personalized, and everywhere. Traditional security wasn’t built for this - so we’re building it, protection that sees the person, connects all the dots - and stop attacks and scams wherever vector they come from. And honestly, we all feel here - it’s just the beginning! So, what’s the job? We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to join our R&D leadership team, reporting to our VP R&D. You’ll own our engineering groups end to end - leading their Group Leads and Team Leads, setting technical direction across large parts of the product, and making sure we deliver fast, reliably, and at consumer scale. This role is about building a world-class engineering organization: the people, the processes, and the technology that will carry Guardio through its next stage of growth. What will you actually do? • Lead, mentor, and grow Group Leads and Team Leads across several engineering groups • Own delivery, quality, reliability, and technical vision across multiple product areas • Partner with the VP R&D to shape R&D strategy, org structure, headcount planning, and engineering culture • Work hand in hand with Product, Design, and Data leadership to turn company goals into clear plans, priorities, and roadmaps • Drive architectural and system design decisions that scale – in performance, security, and cost • Set the bar for how we build: engineering standards, AI adoption, processes, tooling, and ways of working across groups • Lead hiring for senior engineers and managers, and build a strong leadership bench for the future • Identify risks and bottlenecks across the organization early – and fix them • Lead by example – with a high bar for quality, performance, and ownership Sounds great! Am I the right fit? You might be, if you: • Have 5+ years of experience managing managers – leading multiple Team Leads and/or Group Leads • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do hands-on work - must • Have a proven track record of scaling engineering organizations and delivering complex products at scale • Have previous experience in fast-moving startups - and know how to get things done • Still care deeply about the tech - and can go deep on architecture and code when it matters • Know how to grow leaders, not just engineers - and build a culture of trust, ownership, and continuous improvement • Think strategically, balance long-term vision with short-term execution, and make clear decisions under ambiguity • Have excellent communication skills and can influence peers, senior leadership, and cross-functional partners

About Irregular Irregular is the first frontier security lab with the mission of protecting the world in the time of increasingly capable and sophisticated AI systems. We build next-generation defenses through high-fidelity research platforms that simulate and monitor real-world AI security scenarios. As AI systems become more powerful, we focus on staying ahead of emerging threats and vulnerabilities, ensuring these transformative technologies can be deployed safely and securely. About the Role As a Software Engineer at Irregular, you will take ownership of designing, building, and scaling the production systems that power our evaluation and security platform for frontier AI models. Your work will focus on creating robust, resilient, and high-performance infrastructure—whether that’s distributed pipelines, backend services, or tooling that supports our research teams. This role is engineering-first with a strong research and cyber component. You will develop systems that must run reliably in production, integrate with external partners, and support large-scale data, experiments, and automated evaluations. You’ll drive architectural decisions, lead technical implementations, and shape how our platform evolves. Representative Responsibilities: • Architecting and scaling production-grade systems and workflows. • Building backend services, APIs, and monitoring tools for large-scale model evaluations. • Designing infrastructure that supports research experiments at scale. • Implementing agent frameworks in production environments • Designing and building challenges that measure a model’s ability to evade discovery, allowing us to see if models can operate on remote systems while avoiding detection by common defensive security tools. You may be a good fit if you: • Have strong software engineering fundamentals and multiple years of production experience. • Have experience working in multidisciplinary teams, and can adapt to rapidly evolving challenges. • Enjoy working at the intersection of engineering and applied research. • Are interested in AI and cybersecurity (experience in machine learning or cybersecurity is a plus but not necessary). • Care about the societal impacts of your work.
