Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and evolve core backend systems and services, with an emphasis on scalability, performance, and maintainability. • Lead complex technical initiatives from concept through production, making architectural decisions that drive long-term impact. • Take end-to-end responsibility for backend production systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, performance optimization, incident resolution, and infrastructure reliability. • Maintain high engineering standards through code reviews, testing, documentation, and best practices. • Continuously evaluate and adopt modern development tools to improve developer productivity and system quality. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the backend domain, influencing architectural standards and engineering culture. Requirements • 10+ years of backend development experience, with a strong focus on Node.js and distributed systems architecture. • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and drive architectural decisions. • Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, demonstrating strong ownership, rapid execution, and a results-driven mindset. • Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating scalable microservices-based systems in production, including databases, caching layers, messaging systems, and high-traffic APIs. • Proven ability to architect, deploy, and operate production-grade cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), including networking, observability, CI/CD, security best practices, and cost optimization. • Experience integrating AI services or LLM-based workflows into production backend systems. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams. • Skier or snowboarder - always a plus.

You'll join an R&D team that owns its systems end to end, from understanding the business need through design, implementation, and production monitoring. You'll build robust backend services that other teams rely on, and use AI tools in your daily work. You'll help shape how the team adopts them. What you'll do: • Take a leadership role in the design, architecture, development, quality, and production deployment of the team's systems. • Design and implement scalable, maintainable backend solutions for complex scenarios, consumed by other teams. • Work directly with Product, Design/UX, DevOps, and business stakeholders to understand the problem and define success metrics. • Use AI-powered development tools daily to move faster, and help the team adopt them responsibly. • Own production readiness: monitoring, alerting, and observability from day one, and lead the response to critical production issues. • Lead by example in code quality and code reviews, and act as a focal point for engineering excellence. • Proactively identify improvements in team systems, processes, and scalability. Who you are: Experience • 7+ years in backend engineering, with a track record of handling technical trade-offs and ambiguity. • Proficiency in C#, Java, or a similar object-oriented language. • Strong SQL and database management skills. • Hands-on experience with non-relational databases such as MongoDB. • Experience with message queues or streaming platforms (e.g., RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka). • Experience with microservices architecture. • Experience extending complex existing systems while maintaining scalability and performance. • Hands-on, daily use of AI development tools. • A habit of validating before shipping: tests, metrics, and monitoring. • Independence: you can take a problem from definition to production without detailed specs. • Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders; you flag risks early. • BA/BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience (e.g., military technology units like 8200).
