Job Summary Job Summary Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer for our Cortex engineering group, focusing on Cortex XSOAR, Cortex XSIAM, and new Cortex AI solutions. In this role, you will design and implement robust backend services for our leading-edge security orchestration, automation, and response platform. You will also contribute to creating innovative AI-based solutions, enhancing shared Cortex infrastructures. Key Responsibilities • Own the end-to-end backend development of features and components, from design and development to testing, deployment, and maintenance. • Proactively collaborate and exchange information with peers across different teams and disciplines to shape solutions and ensure alignment on product integrations. • Contribute to team-wide efforts including code reviews, design reviews, and architectural decisions, ensuring high-quality and maintainable code. • Apply a production-oriented approach, providing real-time mitigation and effective solutions to production issues to ensure platform stability and reliability. • Challenge curiously and positively by exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance our backend services and AI capabilities. The Team Engineering - Our engineering team is at the core of our products and connected directly to the mission of preventing cyberattacks. Qualifications Your Experience: • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including the development of scalable server-side application using GO or Python • Basic understanding and familiarity with the AI landscape, including various models, frameworks, and prompting techniques. • Demonstrated experience integrating Generative AI solutions into backend architectures. • Proficiency with a variety of database technologies. • Experience with distributed cloud products and major cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure). Nice to Have • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker. • Proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment. We build core backend services that power the modernization of our identity security products — shared services that multiple domain teams depend on. We leverage AI throughout our development process, move fast, and ship often. In this role, you will design and implement robust backend services using AWS serverless architecture while building modern web applications. Embedded within a collaborative, cross-functional team, you will embrace our AI-driven Software Development Life Cycle (ASDLC) to deliver high-performance, secure solutions. We are looking for a passionate engineer with exceptional interpersonal skills to help us achieve our ambitious engineering goals. Responsibilities: • Design and implement backend services in Python on AWS serverless infrastructure • Design and consume RESTful APIs connecting distributed microservices • Build modern web UIs using React and TypeScript • Leverage AI tools throughout the development lifecycle to accelerate delivery • Be a member of a highly talented cross-functional development team in an agile oriented environment • Participate in continuous and iterative engineering cycles, emphasizing code quality, supportability, scalability, and performance • Collaborate with domain teams to define API contracts and integration patterns Qualifications • 5+ years hands-on experience as a software engineer • 3+ years of experience with Python • 2+ years of experience with React (TypeScript) • 3+ years of experience with cloud-based systems (AWS — an advantage) • Experience with microservices systems • Familiarity with Serverless development — an advantage • Experience with micro-frontend architecture - an advantage • The ability to be a team player with excellent collaboration, communication, and leadership skills • Fast learner who is ready to learn new technologies and teach them to others • BSc in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English, good writing skills • Self-motivated with great interpersonal skills Our Commitment We’re trailblazers that dream big, take risks, and challenge cybersecurity’s status quo.
