The Role We are looking for a hands-on, strategic Head of Finance & Operations to build and own the company’s finance function and the operations around it: compliance, internal tooling and company processes. This role combines execution with leadership, from day-to-day financial operations to strategic planning, board work and partnering with the CEO. The ideal candidate is self-driven, analytical and business-oriented, with a track record of growing quickly in finance leadership and the energy to keep building at a startup. You’ll take an AI-first approach, rethinking how finance and operations work as the tools change. Responsibilities • Own all financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and reporting. • Lead financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including building and maintaining financial models. • Act as a thought partner to the CEO, supporting decisions with clear, data-driven insights. • Prepare board and investor reporting, present to the board, and partner with the CEO on fundraising. • Own financial controls and compliance programs, including SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA and audits. • Work closely with leadership across the company to align financial strategy with business goals. • Drive pricing and business-model analysis with leadership. • Own internal software and tooling, and redesign company processes where they slow us down. • Proactively identify cost savings, from vendor spend to AI and infrastructure costs. • This is a lean function: you’ll lead it with our Operations Manager as your direct report and an outsourced accounting firm behind you, with room to grow the team as the company scales. Requirements • Strong financial and strategic thinking; ability to connect numbers to business outcomes. • Executive presence and excellent written and spoken English. Much of our company and board communication is in English. • Experience in high‑growth startups or similar dynamic environments. • Strong finance and accounting foundation. CPA is an advantage. • Board or executive-level reporting experience. • Experience with SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA or similar compliance programs, and with owning internal systems or tools. • AI-first: comfortable using AI to rethink processes and tooling. About the Role Mosaic builds the AI platform that technical support teams run on. Our agents, retrieval, and reasoning sit at the core of how customer-facing teams answer questions, resolve cases, and surface insights. The depth and reliability of that AI is the product. You’ll start with an active research roadmap,, from self-improving evaluation infrastructure to agentic RAG to multimodality. You’ll work with a small team of researchers who are already in place. We’re looking for a hands-on researcher who will do much of this work directly, lead the team day to day, and grow into a bigger leadership role as the team expands. Expect most of your week to go to research and building. What you’ll do • Work hands-on across the AI/ML core of the Mosaic platform (retrieval, agents, model routing, and evals) and own the research that improves it. • Shape the research agenda with the VP of Product and engineering, including what we investigate, how we measure it, and what goes into the product. • Lead a small research team day to day, set goals with each researcher, and help hire as the team grows. • Work inside the product team and with engineering to turn research into features customers use. • Define the quality bar for our AI outputs and make it measurable. Requirements What you bring • MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, NLP, Computer Science, or a closely related field. This is a hard requirement. • 6+ years of hands-on industry experience building production AI/ML systems. • Real production experience with AI agents: designed, built, evaluated, and improved them. Not just experimented. • Prior experience managing researchers or ML engineers. • Independent research mindset: a point of view on what to bet on next, and the judgment to defend it. • Track record of shipping research into product, not only papers or prototypes. • Comfortable partnering deeply with engineering and product. • You still enjoy writing code and running experiments yourself, and you want that to stay a big part of your job. Nice to have • Experience with enterprise B2B SaaS or applied research in industry (not only academic). • Public contributions (papers, talks, open-source, technical writing) that show the way you think. • Experience with RAG systems, evaluation infrastructure, or multi-agent orchestration at scale. About the Role As a research student at Ask-AI, you will work on one of the team’s core challenges in modern LLM-based systems, such as: • Agentic RAG • Advanced retrieval strategies, hybrid search, query rewriting, context optimization, and LLM-driven reasoning pipelines • Automatic Evaluation of Agents • LLM-as-a-Judge, scoring frameworks, hallucination detection, and robust evaluation methodologies • Agents for Knowledge Creation • Building agents that autonomously generate, refine, and maintain enterprise knowledge bases • Ontology-Grounded RAG • Enhancing models with domain-specific knowledge and structured representations • Data Analysis Agents • Agents capable of analyzing complex operational, product, and support data at scale • Fine-tuning LLMs for customer domain adaptation • Automatic agent improvement from user feedback including learning from errors, evaluations, and human signals You will work one day per week, embedded directly in the Ask-AI research group, collaborating closely with senior researchers and engineers. As a VP of Engineering at Mosaic- AI, you will steer the development of our cutting-edge AI Sidekick and MosAIc technologies. In this pivotal role, your primary responsibility is to lead, guide, and mentor a team of talented software developers. You will be actively involved in planning, designing, and executing multiple software development projects while utilizing your extensive knowledge of software development to provide technical guidance and support to your team. What are we looking for: • Strong Technical and Management Background • Expertise in Key Technologies: • Architecture savvy- A must • Proficiency in Python, with a solid understanding of software development best practices in this language- an advantage • Knowledge and hands-on experience with JavaScript, Typescript, and React/Angular- An advantage • Knowledge in Docker, micro-service architecture, FastAPI, Express, and Terraform- An advantage Requirements • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a software engineer, with a proven track record in large-scale, production-grade software development projects. • At least 4 years in a management or group leadership role, ideally overseeing high-output teams. • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from a reputable university- An advantage • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: • Strong communication and leadership skills, capable of effectively motivating and managing software development teams. • Experience in leading leaders- An advantage. • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
